About Us

The company history dates back to around the mid-1930s, when Joseph Baldacchino started out working as a Malta boat builder in Birzebbuga. His son, Anthony Baldacchino, followed this career in the mid-50’s, also at Birzebbuga, where he used to work with his two other brothers, designing and building new wooden boats, traditional Maltese boats (frejgatina) and carrying out lots of boat repairs.

During the 1960s, when he was still 19 years old, he moved to Msida, where he kept on building various types of boats. Eventually, yachts started showing up on the island, and he started taking on heavier and more elaborate jobs as demand for these services increased quite rapidly.

Eventually, Tony’s son Joseph started helping out his father from an early age, while still attending school. Thus, he learnt the boat building trade gradually as he grew up, and showed early on his desire to continue to in the boat building trade.

In 1991, an opportunity came up to start a Boat Yard business for storage, maintenance and repair works on sailing boats and motor yachts.

The business proved to be successful, people showed interest in the yard’s facilities and demand increased. In fact, clients who had previously purchased smaller boats built by Anthony Baldacchino, and who were now the owners of larger sailing and motor yachts, came to the yard with these yachts for maintenance services and repairs.

The boat yard is now situated in Birzebbuga, opposite the Malta Freeport Corporation.

The yard carries out all kinds of professional works including woodwork, glass fibre, professional spraying, gel coat repairs, osmosis treatments and all types of maintenance services and repairs, while also providing yacht storage facilities.
